![]() ![]() ![]() So I had to flick the door handle cap and open the car manually and hold the key up to the steering column (keyless car) to start it. I got my spare key and that was dead too but then that’s on its original battery from over four years ago. Anyway, I got the low batt warning and opened up a brand new pack of Duracell CR2025 (purchased from Amazon iirc) and put a new one in the fob. Like you, a couple weeks back I got the low battery warning which surprised me as I only had a new one put in in late August at service and to date each battery has lasted a year, so I wonder if the one (Panasonic) the dealership put in was dodgy or part used. Jon, I posted this in the other key fob thread but it relates here too. I am sure they are genuine so will pick up a pair next time I'm in town. I see Sainsburys do a pair of Duracell ones for a fiver. I get the same thing with some FPV quadcopters I fly - hit the throttle and the voltage drops hugely. Even more likely on a low mAh CR2025 vs a CR2032. ![]() The inferior ones read 3.3V but must sag too much when asked to transmit the RF to the car. Looking at Amazon reviews, I think even some of the 'Duracell' and 'Panasonic' ones on there are not really what they say. The general consensus seems to that to get good quality, long lasting batteries, you’re best to buy a decent brand from a reputable source. There seem to be lots of fake batteries out there, and IMO the risk of batteries being fakes and / or poor quality is probably higher if they’re bought from certain online sites. This crops up a fairly often on other forums. I think the problem is the shitty batteries I bought from Amazon. Put a new battery in the unused key and the light flickers red as if that battery is dead. I'd say the key has gone wrong but why would it happen just changing a battery - confused.ĭecided to pull the battery out of my unused spare key, rather worried that it would also die! Guess what, the 'old' key now works perfectly with the battery from the unused one. It was working OK but I got the message on the dash asking for a new battery and that's when everything went wrong. ![]() The original Panasonic battery was at 3.01V when I changed it. Still no light when a button is pushed = no power to keyfob. ![]()
